WebRTC and IP phones
A browser and a desk endpoint solve different workstation needs.
Discuss your deploymentWebRTC connects calls with the employee application without a separate softphone. An IP phone remains a physical endpoint ready on the desk. PBXCenter can support both in one environment.

WebRTC
A browser phone provides caller context and workstation mobility
Employees sign into PBXCenter, set availability, see queues, contacts and notes, and handle calls with a headset. The session avoids exposing a reusable SIP password.
- No separate desktop softphone is needed on a supported computer.
- Microphone permissions and browser state affect daily ergonomics.
- A tested laptop and headset support hybrid workstations.
IP phone
A desk endpoint provides fixed controls and a dedicated call surface
An IP phone may fit reception, shared rooms or employees who do not keep the panel open. It requires power, network, a supported profile and controlled provisioning.
- The device can remain ready without an active browser session.
- Model and firmware compatibility are checked before migration or purchase.
- Inventory and access revocation are part of safe maintenance.
Selection and test
Work pattern, network and failure behavior decide the endpoint
Each position should be assessed for call frequency, transfer needs, contact context, mobility, network quality, power and expected behavior after a computer or phone failure.
- Reception and call-center roles may need different devices.
- Testing covers inbound, outbound, transfer and audio behavior.
- A mixed model avoids creating separate phone systems.
FAQ
Direct answers before the conversation.
Is a WebRTC phone less secure than an IP phone?
Security cannot be judged by endpoint type alone. Session design, TLS, network, updates, roles and credential issue matter for both options.
Can one company use both endpoint types?
Yes. PBXCenter can combine WebRTC workspaces and trusted IP phones, with separate endpoint, network and call-flow tests for each.

Choose the endpoint around the workstation, not the reverse.
Describe employee roles, work locations, computers and current phones. We can propose options and the tests required before issue.
